1Andstraightwayin the morning the chief priestsheld a consultationwith the eldersandscribesand the wholecouncil, andboundJesus, and carried him away, anddelivered him to Pilate.
2AndPilateaskedhim, Artthou the King of the Jews?And he answeringsaid unto him, Thousayest it.
3And the chief priestsaccusedhim of many things: butheanswerednothing.
4AndPilateaskedhimagain, saying, Answerest thounothing?behold how many things they witness against thee.
5ButJesusyetanswerednothing; so that Pilatemarvelled.
6Nowat that feast he released unto themoneprisoner, whomsoever they desired.
7And there was one namedBarabbas, which lay boundwith them that had made insurrectionwithhim, who had committedmurderin the insurrection.
8And the multitude crying aloudbegan to desire him to do as he had everdone unto them.
9ButPilateansweredthem, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
10For he knewthat the chief priests had deliveredhimforenvy.
11But the chief priestsmoved the people, that he should ratherreleaseBarabbas unto them.
12AndPilateansweredandsaidagain unto them, What will yethen that I shall do unto him whomyecall the King of the Jews?
13And they cried outagain, Crucifyhim.
14ThenPilatesaid unto them, Why, whatevil hath he done?And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucifyhim.
15And so Pilate, willingtocontent the people, releasedBarabbas unto them, anddeliveredJesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
16And the soldiersledhimawayinto the hall, calledPraetorium; and they call together the wholeband.
17And they clothedhim with purple, andplatted a crown of thorns, and put it abouthis head,
18Andbegan to salutehim, Hail, King of the Jews!
19And they smotehim on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, andbowing their kneesworshippedhim.
20Andwhen they had mockedhim, they took off the purple from him, andput his ownclothesonhim, andledhimouttocrucifyhim.
21And they compeloneSimon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the fatherofAlexanderandRufus, tobearhiscross.
22And they bringhimunto the placeGolgotha, whichis, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
23And they gavehim to drinkwine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
24And when they had crucifiedhim, they partedhisgarments, castinglotsuponthem, what every man should take.
25And it was the thirdhour, and they crucifiedhim.
26And the superscription of hisaccusationwas written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
27Andwithhim they crucifytwothieves; the oneonhis right hand, and the otheronhisleft.
28And the scripture was fulfilled, whichsaith, And he was numberedwith the transgressors.
29And they that passed byrailed on him, waggingtheirheads, andsaying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, andbuildest it inthreedays,
30Savethyself, and come downfrom the cross.
31Likewisealso the chief priestsmockingsaidamongthemselveswith the scribes, He savedothers; himself he cannotsave.
32LetChrist the King of Israeldescendnowfrom the cross, that we may seeandbelieve. And they that were crucified with himreviledhim.
33Andwhen the sixthhourwascome, there wasdarknessover the wholelanduntil the ninthhour.
34And at the ninthhourJesuscried with a loudvoice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lamasabachthani?whichis, being interpreted, MyGod, myGod, whyhast thou forsakenme?
35And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he callethElias.
36Andoneranandfilled a spungefull of vinegar, and put it on a reed, andgavehim to drink, saying, Let alone; let us seewhetherElias will come to takehimdown.
37AndJesuscried with a loudvoice, and gave up the ghost.
38And the veil of the temple was rentintwainfrom the topto the bottom.
39And when the centurion, whichstoodoveragainsthim, sawthat he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Trulythismanwas the Son of God.
40Therewerealsowomenlooking on afaroff: amongwhomwasMaryMagdalene, andMary the mother of James the lessand of Joses, andSalome;

(Whoalso, when he wasinGalilee, followedhim, andministereduntohim;) andmanyother women which came up with himuntoJerusalem.
42Andnow when the evenwascome, because it was the preparation, thatis, the day before the sabbath,
43JosephofArimathaea, an honourablecounsellor, whichalsowaitedfor the kingdomofGod, came, and went inboldlyuntoPilate, andcraved the bodyofJesus.
44AndPilatemarvelledif he werealreadydead: andcalling unto him the centurion, he askedhimwhether he had been any whiledead.
45And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46And he bought fine linen, and took himdown, andwrappedhimin the linen, andlaidhimin a sepulchrewhichwashewn out of a rock, androlled a stoneunto the doorof the sepulchre.
47AndMaryMagdaleneandMary the mother of Josesbeheldwhere he was laid.
