But a certainmannamedAnanias, withSapphirahiswife, sold a possession,
And kept backpartof the price, hiswifealso being privy to it, andbrought a certainpart, andlaid it at the apostles' feet.
ButPetersaid, Ananias, why hath Satanfilledthineheart to lie to the HolyGhost, and to keep back part of the priceof the land?

Whiles it remained, was it notthineown?and after it was sold, was it notinthineownpower?whyhast thou conceivedthisthinginthineheart? thou hastnotlied unto men, but unto God.
AndAnaniashearingthesewords fell down, and gave up the ghost: andgreatfearcameonall them that heardthesethings.
And the young menarose, woundhimup, and carried himout, andburiedhim.
And it wasabout the space of threehoursafter, whenhiswife, notknowing what wasdone, came in.
AndPeteranswered unto her, Tellmewhether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
ThenPetersaiduntoher, How is it thatye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord?behold, the feet of them which have buriedthyhusband are at the door, and shall carrytheeout.
Then fell she downstraightwayathisfeet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, andfoundherdead, and, carrying herforth, buriedherbyherhusband.
Andgreatfearcameuponall the church, anduponas many asheard these things.
Andby the hands of the apostlesweremanysignsandwonderswroughtamong the people;(and they wereall with one accordin Solomon's porch.
And of the restdurst no man join himself to them: but the peoplemagnifiedthem.
Andbelieverswere the moreadded to the Lord, multitudesboth of menandwomen.)
Insomuchthat they brought forth the sickinto the streets, andlaidthemonbedsandcouches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadowsome of them.

There camealso a multitude out of the cities round aboutuntoJerusalem, bringingsick folks, and them which were vexedwithuncleanspirits: andthey were healed every one.
Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him,(which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filledwithindignation,
Andlaidtheirhandson the apostles, andputthemin the commonprison.
But the angel of the Lordbynightopened the prisondoors, andbroughtthemforth, andsaid,
Go, standandspeakin the temple to the peopleall the words of thislife.
And when they heard that, they enteredinto the temple early in the morning, andtaught. But the high priestcame, and they that were withhim, andcalled the counciltogether, andall the senate of the children of Israel, andsentto the prisontohavethembrought.
But when the officerscame, andfoundthemnotin the prison, they returned, andtold,
Saying, The prisontrulyfoundweshutwithallsafety, and the keepersstandingwithoutbefore the doors: but when we had opened, wefound no manwithin.
Nowwhen the high priestand the captainof the templeand the chief priestsheardthesethings, they doubtedofthemwhereuntothis would grow.

Then cameoneandtoldthem, saying, Behold, the menwhom ye putinprisonarestandingin the temple, andteaching the people.
Thenwent the captainwith the officers, and broughtthemwithoutviolence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
And when they had broughtthem, they setthembefore the council: and the high priestaskedthem,
Saying, Didnot we straitlycommandyou that ye shouldnotteachinthisname?and, behold, ye have filledJerusalem with yourdoctrine, andintend to bringthis man's blooduponus.
ThenPeterand the other apostlesansweredandsaid, We ought to obeyGodratherthanmen.

The God of ourfathers raised upJesus, whomyeslew and hangedon a tree.
Him hath Godexalted with his right hand to be a Princeand a Saviour, for to giverepentance to Israel, andforgiveness of sins.
Andwearehiswitnesses of thesethings; and so is also the HolyGhost, whomGod hath given to them that obeyhim.
When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slaythem.
Then stood there uponein the council, aPharisee, namedGamaliel, a doctor of the law, had inreputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostlesfortha little space;
Andsaiduntothem, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselveswhat ye intend to do as touchingthesemen.
Forbeforethesedays rose upTheudas, boastinghimselftobesomebody; towhom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; andall, as many asobeyedhim, were scattered, andbroughttonought.
After this man rose upJudas of Galileein the days of the taxing, and drew awaymuchpeopleafterhim: he alsoperished; andall, even as many asobeyedhim, were dispersed.
Andnow I say unto you, Refrainfromthesemen, andletthemalone: forifthiscounselorthisworkbeofmen, it will come to nought:
ButifitbeofGod, ye cannotoverthrowit; lest haply ye befoundeven to fight against God.
And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, andbeatenthem, they commanded that they shouldnotspeakin the name of Jesus, andletthemgo.
And they departedfrom the presence of the council, rejoicingthat they were counted worthy to suffer shameforhisname.
Anddailyin the temple, andineveryhouse, they ceasednot to teachandpreachJesusChrist.
