ThenspakeJesus to the multitude, and to hisdisciples,
Saying, The scribesand the PhariseessitinMoses' seat:
Allthereforewhatsoever they bidyouobserve, that observeanddo; butdonot ye aftertheirworks: for they say, anddonot.
For they bindheavyburdensand grievous to be borne, andlaythemon men's shoulders; but they themselves willnotmovethem with one of theirfingers.
Butalltheirworks they dofor to be seen of men: they make broadtheirphylacteries, andenlarge the borders of theirgarments,
Andlove the uppermost roomsatfeasts, and the chief seatsin the synagogues,
Andgreetingsin the markets, and to be calledofmen, Rabbi, Rabbi.
ButbenotyecalledRabbi: foroneisyourMaster, even Christ; andallyearebrethren.
Andcallno man yourfatherupon the earth: foroneisyourFather, whichisinheaven.
Neither be ye calledmasters: foroneisyourMaster, even Christ.
But he that is greatest among you shall beyourservant.
Andwhosoever shall exalthimself shall be abased; andhe that shall humblehimself shall be exalted.
Butwoe unto you, scribesandPharisees, hypocrites! forye shut up the kingdom of heavenagainstmen: foryeneither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
Woe unto you, scribesandPharisees, hypocrites! for ye devourwidows' houses, andfor a pretencemakelongprayer: therefore ye shall receive the greaterdamnation.
Woe unto you, scribesandPharisees, hypocrites! for ye compassseaandland to makeoneproselyte, andwhen he is made, ye makehim twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Woe unto you, ye blindguides, whichsay, Whosoever shall swearby the temple, it isnothing; butwhosoever shall swearby the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

Ye foolsandblind: forwhetherisgreater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
And, Whosoever shall swearby the altar, itisnothing; butwhosoeverswearethby the gift that isuponit, he isguilty.

Ye foolsandblind: forwhether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

Whoso therefore shall swearby the altar, swearethbyit, andby all thingsthereon.
And whoso shall swearby the temple, swearethbyit, andby him that dwelleththerein.
And he that shall swearbyheaven, swearethby the throne of God, andby him that sitteththereon.
Woe unto you, scribesandPharisees, hypocrites! forye pay tithe of mintandaniseandcummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, andfaith: these ought ye to have done, andnot to leave the otherundone.

Ye blindguides, which strain at a gnat, andswallow a camel.
Woe unto you, scribesandPharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outsideof the cupandof the platter, butwithin they are fullofextortionandexcess.

Thou blindPharisee, cleansefirstthat which is within the cupandplatter, that the outside of them may becleanalso.
Woe unto you, scribesandPharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whitedsepulchres, whichindeedappearbeautifuloutward, but are withinfull of dead men's bones, and of alluncleanness.

Even soyealsooutwardlyappearrighteous unto men, butwithinyearefull of hypocrisyandiniquity.
Woe unto you, scribesandPharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, andgarnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
Andsay, If we had beenin the days of ourfathers, we wouldnot have beenpartakers with themin the blood of the prophets.
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
Fillyeupthen the measure of yourfathers.
Yeserpents, yegeneration of vipers, how can yeescape the damnation of hell?
Wherefore, behold, Isenduntoyouprophets, and wise men, andscribes: and some ofthem ye shall killandcrucify; and some ofthem shall ye scourgeinyoursynagogues, andpersecutethemfromcitytocity:
Thatuponyou may comeall the righteousbloodshedupon the earth, from the blood of righteousAbelunto the blood of Zachariasson of Barachias, whom ye slewbetween the templeand the altar.
Verily I say unto you, All these things shall comeuponthisgeneration.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, andstonest them which are sentuntothee, how oftenwouldI have gatheredthychildrentogether, even as a hengatherethherchickensunderherwings, and ye wouldnot!
Behold, yourhouse is left unto youdesolate.
For I say unto you, Ye shallnotseemehenceforth, till ye shallsay, Blessed is he that comethin the name of the Lord.
