And it came to pass, that onone of thosedays, as hetaught the peoplein the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priestsand the scribes came upon him with the elders,
Andspakeuntohim, saying, Tellus, bywhatauthority doest thou these things?orwho is he that gavetheethisauthority?
And he answeredandsaiduntothem, Iwillalsoaskyouonething; andanswerme:

The baptismofJohn, was itfromheaven, orofmen?
And they reasonedwiththemselves, saying, If we shall say, Fromheaven; he will say, Whythen believed yehimnot?

But andif we say, Ofmen; all the people will stoneus: for they bepersuaded that Johnwas a prophet.
And they answered, that they couldnottellwhence it was.
AndJesussaid unto them, NeithertellIyoubywhatauthorityIdo these things.
Then began hetospeakto the peoplethisparable; A certainmanplanted a vineyard, andletitforthtohusbandmen, and went into a far country for a longtime.
Andat the season he sent a servantto the husbandmen, that they should givehimof the fruitof the vineyard: but the husbandmenbeathim, andsenthimawayempty.
Andagain he sentanotherservant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, andsent him awayempty.
Andagain he sent a third: and they woundedhimalso, and cast himout.
Thensaid the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will sendmybelovedson: it may be they will reverencehim when they seehim.
But when the husbandmensawhim, they reasonedamongthemselves, saying, Thisis the heir: come, let us killhim, that the inheritance may beours.
So they casthim out of the vineyard, and killedhim. Whatthereforeshall the lordof the vineyarddo unto them?

He shall comeanddestroythesehusbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
And he beheldthem, andsaid, Whatisthisthen that iswritten, The stonewhich the buildersrejected, the sameisbecome the headof the corner?
Whosoever shall falluponthatstone shall be broken; butonwhomsoever it shall fall, it will grindhim to powder.
And the chief priestsand the scribes the samehoursought to layhandsonhim; and they feared the people: for they perceivedthat he had spokenthisparableagainstthem.
And they watchedhim, and sent forthspies, which should feignthemselves just men, that they might take hold of hiswords, thatso they might deliverhim unto the powerandauthority of the governor.
And they askedhim, saying, Master, we knowthatthousayestandteachestrightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, butteachest the way of Godtruly:

Is it lawful for us to givetribute unto Caesar, orno?
But he perceivedtheircraftiness, and saiduntothem, Why tempt yeme?
Shewme a penny. Whoseimageandsuperscription hath it? They answeredandsaid, Caesar's.
And he said unto them, Rendertherefore unto Caesar the things which beCaesar's, and unto God the things which beGod's.
And they couldnot take hold of hiswordsbefore the people: and they marvelledathisanswer, and held their peace.
Thencame to himcertain of the Sadducees, whichdeny that there isanyresurrection; and they askedhim,
Saying, Master, Moseswrote unto us, If any man's brotherdie, having a wife, andhedie without children, thathisbrother should takehiswife, and raise upseed unto hisbrother.

There werethereforesevenbrethren: and the firsttook a wife, anddied without children.
And the secondtook her to wife, andhediedchildless.
And the thirdtookher; and in like manner the sevenalso: and they leftnochildren, anddied.
Last of all the womandiedalso.
Thereforein the resurrectionwhosewife of them is she?forsevenhadher to wife.
AndJesusansweringsaid unto them, The children of thisworldmarry, and are given in marriage:
But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtainthatworld, and the resurrectionfrom the dead, neithermarry, nor are given in marriage:
Neithercan they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; andare the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
Nowthat the dead are raised, evenMosesshewedat the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
For he isnot a God of the dead, but of the living: foralllive unto him.
Thencertain of the scribesansweringsaid, Master, thou hast wellsaid.
And after that they durstnotaskhimany question at all.
And he saiduntothem, Howsay they that Christis David's son?
AndDavidhimselfsaithin the book of Psalms, The LORDsaid unto myLord, Sit thouonmy right hand,
Till I makethineenemiesthyfootstool.
DavidthereforecallethhimLord, how is hethenhisson?
Then in the audience of all the people he said unto hisdisciples,
Bewareof the scribes, whichdesire to walkin long robes, andlovegreetingsin the markets, and the highest seatsin the synagogues, and the chief roomsatfeasts;
Whichdevourwidows' houses, and for a shewmakelongprayers: the same shall receivegreaterdamnation.
